Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Gastroenterology Managers and/or delegates this position performs specialized cleaning of GI Endoscopy equipment. Adhering to CSA and Alberta Health guidelines performs technical duties under general supervision relating to the dis-assembly, decontamination, assembly, function testing, sterilization, storage and distribution of reprocessed hospital supplies, equipment, and surgical instrumentation.
Other duties include: database information, obtains, distributes, and maintains supplies; performs general cleaning; and performs other related duties as required.
Please Note: Current operational hours of the GI Endoscopy Unit are Monday to Friday 0945-1800H; however this job has one Sunday shift per 4 week rotation. This may change to meet operational needs.
Alberta Health Services requires all employees working in medical device reprocessing to be a qualified graduate from a Surgical Processor course or program and successfully completed their Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (CMDRT) Exam – no later than March 31, 2016.
Mandatory certification will be a condition of employment for all employees performing MDR duties in the designated areas as of April 1, 2016.
Qualifications:
– Grade 12 required.
– Medical Terminology required.
– Graduate from Certified Sterile Processing program required.
– IAHCSMM or CSA certification certification preferred.
– WHMIS certification required (or willingness to complete within first month of employment).
– Current reprocessing practice required.
– Minimum 1 year previous experience in health care setting preferred.
– Requires manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks using fine motor skills.
– Must be in good health without limitation, affecting standing, and walking.
– Must be able to continuously lift scope sets weighing 10 kilograms (22 lbs) and occasionally lift up to 18 kg (40 lbs).
– Previous operation endoscopy experience highly preferred.
– Experience working with computerized equipment required.
– Excellent English verbal and written skills required.
– Excellent data entry skills required.
– Meticulous attention to detail required.
– Strong organizational and communication skills required.
– Must be capable of continuous productivity in stressful situations.
– Ability to perform independently, showing sound judgment, flexibility, and initiative.
– Ability to work closely with others in a cooperative manner.
– Must be service oriented, reliable, and pay attention to details.
– Ability to foster a positive interpersonal communications and work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team required.
