Due to exciting growth at Schlegel Villages, we are currently seeking Team Members to join the Personal Care Aide (PSW) team for The Village at University Gates located at the University of Waterloo. Recently opened, this 192 bed Long Term Care Village is a state of the art research and teaching location. We are looking for innovative team members committed to enhancing the lives of elders. Opportunities are available for Part Time and Casual team members on all shifts.
The PSW acts as an advocate for residents in Long Term Care and supports resident-centered care. A PSW’s work is part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic needs are met and maximum choice and participation by residents in decision- making is promoted. PSWs assist the resident with all activities of daily living – personal hygiene, basic nursing care, and dining room assistance are provided by the PSW. The PSW observes and reports any changes in the resident’s status to the RPN or Charge Nurse.
The positions are ‘people intensive’ with a substantial component of the job involving fostering flexible living and exemplary resident/family relations while advocating for improvements to quality of life.
Qualifications:
Have a valid PSW Certificate that is 600 hours or greater and meets the vocational standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities, the standards established by the National Association of Career Colleges, or the standards established by the Ontario Community Support Association
Able to work as part of an inter-professional team
Support and embrace a resident centred social culture
Excellent communication and time management
Sound knowledge of lift and transfer skills
Able to tolerate repetitive movements
Provide high quality personal care to residents
